Last day of afterschool
June 18, 2026

In our arts-based afterschool program at the Maud Morgan Arts Center, students can participate in this program up to two days per week, either on its own or in combination with the choice-based program. In this program, students are assigned a class that rotates through different art media throughout the school year, such as ceramics, printmaking, painting and drawing.

This afterschool program is part of our Children’s Programs offerings.

For middle school students, we offer an arts-based afterschool program that meets Mondays and Fridays at the Maud Morgan Arts Center. Students can participate in one or both days of the program, and will rotate through different art media throughout the school year such as ceramics, printmaking, painting, and drawing.

The transition to afterschool begins at 2 PM, but your child’s start time will depend on their dismissal from school and arrival method. We are able to pick up students from the Baldwin School, or at the bus stop there if they attend a different Cambridge school, and walk them a few houses down the street to our Kindergarten program site at 20 Sacramento Street. Students are also welcome to be dropped off. All students must be signed out and picked up no later than 5:55 PM.

On CPS district early release days, our program will open 30 minutes early to welcome Wednesday students from their buses or after Baldwin School dismissal. We will close at our regular time, so caregivers are expected to pick up by 5:55pm as usual. On CPS district half days, our program will open 2 hours early and close at our regular time.

Our Children’s Programs staff is led by a strong team of Site Directors with expertise in child development, health and safety, curriculum development, family communication, and supporting positive social-emotional growth in children. Our Youth Arts Programs are taught by individuals who are passionate about working with children, fostering their creativity, and are artists themselves.

All our teachers come from diverse backgrounds and each bring their own unique skills and interests to our curriculum. What they share in common is a commitment to building relationships with every child in our care and providing them a fun, welcoming and supportive environment. All staff are CPR/First Aid certified and participate in a rigorous orientation.

The Maud Morgan Arts building, which opened in 2010, was designed by artists for artists and is a work of art itself. Nine Cambridge artists collaborated with the architects Prellwitz Chilinski to create site-specific public artwork that inspires joyful creative exploration in a light-filled, colorful environment. These details only enhance the experience of learning and making art in our programs.

The building has four different studio spaces – ceramics, printmaking, painting/drawing, and sculpture – each equipped with tools for different media and all levels of experience and expertise. Whether it’s a child taking their first art class or an adult ceramicist honing their craft, our aim for our Arts Programs is to make them both high-quality and accessible to artists of all ages, talents, and income levels.

Our youth arts programs are structured around different art media, and the curriculum rotates through all of them in the duration of a single school year. This allows all students to try everything our studios offer at least once, with the benefit of remaining in consistent, reliable childcare.

Ceramics is one of our most popular activities in our youth programs, not only because we have a professional-grade ceramics studio for both wheelthrowing and handbuilding, as well as our own kiln. It’s also because we have many talented ceramicists on staff who are passionate about fostering creativity and teaching techniques that make this art form fun and accessible for all age groups.

Between our arts-focused afterschool programs and the arts-infused curriculum in our vacation week and summer programs, there are youth arts programs options all year round. Children get to learn and play in our studios, and parents get reliable, high-quality childcare.

We are fortunate to have a community gallery space in which we are able to showcase the amazing work by our students, even our youth artists! We have at least one children’s programs art show each year so our students get the invaluable experience of being part of an exhibition.
